Got an alert about an RPLATE traveling with you? Here's how to turn off its location sharing

Got an alert about an RPLATE traveling with you? Here's what it is, why you were alerted and how to turn off its location sharing if you want to.

What is an RPLATE?

An RPLATE is a digital license plate made by Reviver. It mounts on the vehicle in place of a metal plate and shows the vehicle's registered plate number on an e-ink screen. Owners can choose to share their plate's location so they can find their vehicle, much like a lost-item tracker.

Why did my phone alert me?

Phones can alert you when an item that shares its location seems to be moving with you. If the alert identifies the item as an RPLATE, you've likely been traveling with a vehicle that has one, such as a car you've been riding in, borrowing or sharing.

If you know the vehicle and its owner, there's nothing you need to do. If you don't recognize it, or you'd rather it not share its location while it's with you, you can turn location sharing off right at the plate. No phone, app or tools are needed.

How to turn it off

  1. Find the Home button. It's the small oval button in the bottom right corner of the black frame, on the front of the plate.

  2. Press and release it four times, quickly. Use short taps, each one within 2 seconds of the last. If you pause longer, start over. Do not press and hold.

  3. Wait for the confirmation. The screen can take up to 15 seconds to update. When it's done, the plate shows RPLATE Locate disabled. If location sharing was already off, it shows RPLATE Locate not active.

If the screen doesn't change: wait 15 seconds, then try the four presses again. If it still doesn't change, contact Reviver Customer Support or local law enforcement using the details below.

What happens next

  • The plate stops sharing its location, so its owner can no longer see where it is.

  • The plate's display, registration and everything else keep working as normal.

  • The owner is notified by email and in the Reviver app that location sharing was turned off at the plate.

  • It stays off. To use it again, the owner has to remove the plate in the Reviver app and set it up again from the start.

Identify this plate

Press and hold the Home button for 10 seconds. The plate restarts and shows an information screen with two serial numbers: the plate serial number, which starts with B8AB, and the location network serial number, which starts with B8F. Either one helps Reviver Customer Support or law enforcement identify the plate.

If you feel unsafe

Contact local law enforcement. They can work with Reviver to identify the plate's owner. Reviver Customer Support can also help at [email protected] or 1 (844) 697-7528.

Do you own this plate?

If you turned it off by accident, open the Reviver app, turn RPLATE Locate off and remove the plate, then set it up again from the start. See the RPLATE user guide for the steps.

Applies to RPLATE battery models with firmware 1.26.0.0 and later.
