I Paid the Motor Vehicle Authority Directly. How Do I Update My Plate?

Why your plate hasn’t updated yet

How & When Your Plate Updates If you renewed your registration directly through your state’s motor vehicle authority, a self-service kiosk, or an authorized partner like AAA, Reviver automatically checks state records daily starting 7 days before your renewal due date and continuing for up to 5 days after.

  • Renewed early (more than 7 days before your due date)?

    • Your plate will update automatically once your renewal falls within the 7-day window before your due date.

    • Want to update it sooner? Open the Reviver App and tap "Renew." This initiates a manual status check with your state's motor vehicle authority to pull your updated registration immediately. Note: Tapping "Renew" after paying the state directly will not result in double billing—it simply checks your status.

  • Renewed late (more than 5 days past your due date)?

    • Because automated state checks stop 5 days after your expiration date, your plate will not update automatically. Tap "Renew" in the Reviver App to trigger a manual check and refresh your plate status.

  • Renewed directly in the Reviver App? Your digital plate updates automatically as soon as your renewal processes.

(Note for Arizona vehicles: Arizona's system pushes updates directly to Reviver, so your plate may refresh as soon as the state processes your payment.)

Why your plate hasn’t updated yet

  • State processing delays: Processing is not instant. Until your state's motor vehicle authority finalizes the record in their system, your RPLATE will display the previous expiration date.

  • Pending state requirements: Mandatory items (such as emissions/smog testing or insurance verification) must be cleared with your state before the registration record finalizes.

What to check to ensure the update reaches your plate

  1. Check the Reviver App: Verify there are no pending tasks or missing items required by your state.

  2. Connect via Bluetooth: Ensure your mobile device is paired with your RPLATE via Bluetooth so the hardware can receive the updated expiration date.

  3. Contact Support: If your app reflects the updated registration status but your plate hasn't refreshed after completing the steps above, please contact Reviver Support.
