Even with a digital license plate, you are still required to keep the physical paper registration card issued by your state’s motor vehicle authority inside your vehicle.
The digital plate displays your registration status electronically, but it does not replace the legal requirement to carry the paper registration document. If you are stopped by law enforcement, the paper card is still the official proof of registration.
The physical registration sticker that comes with the paper card does not need to be placed on the digital plate.
What to expect when you renew registration
When you renew your registration—whether through the Reviver app or directly with the motor vehicle authority—you will still receive the paper registration card and sticker by mail from the state.
The Reviver app shows your updated registration status and helps keep the plate current, but it is not a substitute for the paper document. For this reason, you should always keep the physical registration card in your vehicle.
