“Flagged for Surrender of Title” — What Does This Mean?

Some registration renewal holds must be resolved by the state's motor vehicle authority.

What this message means

If you see “Flagged for Surrender of Title” in the Reviver app, it means the state motor vehicle authority has placed a serious hold on your vehicle record. This hold prevents registration renewal and blocks updates to your digital license plate.

The flag usually indicates that the state believes there is a problem with the vehicle’s ownership, insurance, or legal status. Common reasons include a reported ownership change, an insurance issue, a repossession or total-loss record, or incomplete or conflicting title information. In some cases, the message may appear even though the information is outdated or incorrect.

Because this is a state-level hold, the app cannot complete renewal while the flag is present.

What to do next

Start by contacting Reviver Support. Support can review the flag, confirm whether it is accurate, and determine whether additional information is needed or whether the issue must be resolved directly with the motor vehicle authority.

If the hold is confirmed as valid, Reviver Support will guide you on the next steps, which may include contacting the motor vehicle authority to correct ownership, insurance, or title records. Once the state clears the flag, registration renewal and plate updates can proceed.
