Can I Transfer a Wired RPLATE? (California Rules)

In California, Wired RPLATEs cannot be transferred to a different vehicle. This is a regulatory restriction, not a technical issue with your plate.

Why Wired RPLATEs Can’t Be Transferred

Wired RPLATEs are permanently associated with a specific vehicle under California regulations. Because these plates connect directly to vehicle power and telemetry systems, the state requires them to remain tied to the original VIN.

As a result:

  • Wired plates cannot be reassigned to a new vehicle

  • They cannot be re-provisioned after a vehicle is sold or traded in

  • Attempting to transfer them in the app will be blocked by design

This applies even if:

  • You still own the plate

  • The plate is physically removable

  • The new vehicle is also registered in California

Were Wired RPLATEs Discontinued?

Yes. Wired RPLATEs are no longer offered to new customers.

Reviver now supports battery-powered RPLATEs, which are:

  • Transferable between vehicles you own

  • Compliant with current California regulations

  • Supported for future updates and replacements

What Are My Options?

If you’re replacing a vehicle that had a Wired RPLATE, the supported path forward is to switch to a Battery RPLATE.

Reviver offers:

  • Discounted replacement options

  • Refurbished battery models (when available)

  • Help transferring your service to the new plate
